New Payroll Tax Tables Required by April 2009
Internal Revenue Service, Notice 1036

New tables have been developed due to changes to the tax law made in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The IRS requires employers to use the new tables as soon as possible but no later than April 1st. Employees do not need to fill out a new Form W-4.

The Form 941 begining the first quarter of 2009 will be modified to comply with new legislation regarding COBRA payments. The new COBRA regulations are available on the Department of Labor website; click here for more information.

For version 8 and 2009, Sage Software Online (SSO) will have this tax table available in a Service Pack. The delivery date is still udetermined, but before the end of March. You can check the availablity of the new tax table by checking the BusinessWorks downloads page on SSO. Remember, your ClientCare must be current to download the new tax tables and Form 941 worksheet.

New Features in Sage BusinessWorks 2009

Have you upgraded to the newest version of BusinessWorks? Version 2009 includes some very strong enhancements that should please every user:

Do you bill your customers at different rates for your services or inventory? The new features in Accounts Receivable (when using inventory) allow customer specific pricing. This feature can significantly reduce pricing errors for service, marine or wholesale companies.

Do you lose track of open credits? Detailed open credits and debits in both Accounts Receivable are available. If you were like us, we were tired of the open credit "black hole." About every other month I would ask Terry about the open credit balance for a customer and she spend 15 minutes researching the balance, but that has all changed in version 2009!

Other enhancements include the unlimited line items for quotes, sales orders, invoices, and purchase orders, enhanced check printing options and expanded hyperlink capabilities.

The Two Dollar Bill Stimulus Package

A positive economic report recently heard on National Public Radio about a local pharmacist in Brewton, Alabama, population 7,500. The owner paid employee bonuses in $2 bills. The business owner made one request of his employees – to donate 15% and spend the balance in locally-owned businesses.

The businesses in town soon learned about the pharmacist’s local stimulus program when they received the $2 bills. When asked, the pharmacist reported he received several of the $2 bills for payments.
